The story
The Fong Khar — the palace on the rock — was built by the Rajas of Shigar in the 17th century and painstakingly restored decades ago. With a local heritage guide arranged by Rawaan you walk its carved wooden rooms, its mosque and its orchard lanes, and hear how the valley was ruled.
