Hunza in Bloom

Spring's pink week in the valley of long life — blossom walks with an Altit orchardist, Baltit Fort by lamplight, and a private boat across the impossible blue of Attabad.

The route

Day by day

  1. Day 1

Islamabad → Chilas on the KKH

The Karakoram Highway swallows you whole — gorge after gorge of the young Indus.

  2. Day 2

    Chilas → Karimabad

Rakaposhi appears and refuses to leave the windscreen. By evening you're on a rooftop in Karimabad with walnut cake.

  3. Day 3

    The Blossom Walk

A slow pink morning in Altit's orchards, honey on fresh bread, and an afternoon in the fort's shadowed lanes.

  4. Day 4

    Attabad by private boat

The full length of the turquoise lake, coves the jetty crowds never see, lunch at a lakeside terrace.

  5. Day 5

Baltit Fort & the old town lanes

Seven hundred years of Silk Road history in the fort, then the stepped lanes of Karimabad's old town below it.

  6. Day 6

    The long ride home

One clean push down the KKH with the blossom still in your camera roll.
